What Are Neurotoxins?
Neurotoxins are FDA-approved injectable treatments designed to soften and prevent facial wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement. Commonly known by brand names such as Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, neurotoxins temporarily relax targeted facial muscles to smooth the skin and restore a youthful, rested appearance.
How Neurotoxins Work
Facial expressions like smiling, frowning, and squinting cause muscles to contract repeatedly over time, leading to expression lines. Neurotoxins work by gently blocking nerve signals to specific muscles, allowing the overlying skin to relax and smooth out. Treatments are quick, minimally invasive, and require little to no downtime.
What Neurotoxins Treat
Neurotoxins are commonly used to improve the appearance of:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Chin dimpling and lip lines
- Neck bands (in select cases)
